Introducing – Craig Dyer
Craig joined the company in 2012 as the Yard Manager. He has worked in the events industry since 1993 and previously owned and ran his own marquee company, Amicable Marquees. He brought with him a wealth of experience in project management, business development, operations, logistics, and has been involved in all aspects of the events industry.
Over the years at Purvis Marquees he has worked closely within the Management Team to improve the processes in and around our yard in Edinburgh and to help control the vast amount of stock that Purvis Marquees has to offer.
How long have you worked at Purvis Marquees?
I joined Purvis Marquees at the end of 2012.
Where did you work / what did you do before?
I owned and ran my own company Amicable Marquees and was a major player in the wedding marquee sector for many years. The company was built up over the years and dealt with all aspects of operating a business such as budgets, operations, planning and sales.
Describe a typical working day for you:
For the majority of the time we are incredibly busy, and with our company being family run, it is a small team who get involved in all aspects of the business. This can involve planning, operations, stock control, yard operations, logistics, training, and I often end up on site with our crew to project manage some of our many contracts.
Best parts of working with the Purvis Team?
Coming from a marquee background I enjoy being involved in all aspects of Purvis Marquees and this suits my work ethic of hard work and long hours. We have a varied and dedicated crew whom I enjoy working with on-site when I get the chance to escape the office/yard and join them on site.
Biggest Achievement/highlight of career to date?
Working on our Royal Household contracts has to be a big achievement and one of my most enjoyable experiences. I also held the main contract for East Lothian Council for many years supplying all of their event structures and I was the marquee supplier from the outset to its end for the Wickerman Festival in Dumfriesshire.
What’s your top tip for event organisers?
Stop changing your mind at the last minute with major build changes!
How do you relax?
Spending my limited spare time with a very understanding family. I also enjoy walking our dogs, water skiing, reading and using our caravan at Oban.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Methodical, hard-working & thick skinned!
Some of Craig’s highlights over the years included being involved in the supply of both traditional and frame marquees for the full run of the Wickerman Festival, being heavily involved in the wedding marquee sector bringing many bride’s dreams to life and of course providing marquees to the Royal Household across the UK.
Craig has now progressed from Yard Manager to the role of Operations/Transport Manager for the business.
